Earlier this year I started building a portfolio of in-home or activity lifestyle sessions that really froze in time the reality of life as it is right now.
Simple moments that feel so mundane right now, but yet - will be cherished so much more in a years time, or 10-20 years.
I was captivated by my first in-home lifestyle session that wasn’t just a newborn session that was fresh on finding a new normal, but showing up to my clients homes with no expectation or shot list.
Showing up to document life as it is. Not just the perfect family portrait - but the nitty gritty reality of every day life. Which is actually quite beautiful.
why legacy sessions?
As I’ve been photographing weddings for many years, I’ve accumulated the most beautiful clientele that I have the gift of calling my friends. Watching your families grow - documenting the ebbs and flows of new seasons and additions.
These sessions have opened up more margin for incredibly meaningful imagery. I was greeted by kids who got to pick their outfits before Miss Rachel comes over, invited into the mess of life, making pancakes in the kitchen, and getting a tour around the play room.
I’ve envisioned free for all Art Days
...where the kids just get to be kids - make a big ole mess and not have the boundaries of time and a foreign space to fully let their personalities shine. I’ve dreamt of pool days and running through sprinklers, of helping mama cook a meal together, of grandparents and aunts and uncles being present
for dance parties in the living room.
As I’ve been dreaming up these sessions, and photographing the few families I’ve had the pleasure of in this authentic way, I’ve started envisioning being present for family holiday traditions making sugar cookies or doing that weird thing that only your family does at Christmas.

The things that make your souls come alive. Not me trying to curate or create something that’s aesthetically pleasing or for the enjoyment of anyone else.

aren’t just for parents with children, but also for the couple that has a beautiful life and wants to cherish these days that it’s just them, and maybe their fur babies.
Or the single human who is in love with their life and the space that they’ve created to call home.

I don’t need you to have the picture perfect house, or the most dreamy light that spills into your living room. I want to show up and be invited into your reality.
I want to create a space of laughter,
intimacy, and vulnerability
that transcends into beautiful art.
No agenda.
No expectations. No judgement.
into a home that was preparing for the loss of their long term family dog. Freezing in time the joy that precious pup had when he was around his favorite hoomans.
I’ve experienced the raw depth of being included in a Saturday afternoon honoring a matriarch who was nearing the
end of her battle with cancer.
It was a day filled with family games, mama’s famous rice recipe, and bachata in the living room.
It was a reverent and beautiful experience and one that I will cherish deeply with the Matos family till the end of time.

Photos that feel like your grand-parents childhood photographs.
These images will represent nostalgia. They’re going to be edited with my love of film and how film makes you feel about a photograph in mind.
I want them to feel like something that should stop you in your tracks and take you back to that exact moment.
I cannot rave enough about our sessions with Rachel. We have been honored to have her capture our family during multiple legacy, in-home sessions and there is no one else I would trust with documenting our lives. Rachel's talent speaks for itself when you see her work, but what makes her special is what you don't see. From the second she walked in our home she felt like an old friend as opposed to a stranger. She effortlessly befriended our toddler with her patience and silliness.
She is so warm, compassionate, and inviting that our entire family felt instantly at ease and often forgot she was even photographing us. Rachel gave us the gift of capturing our home and family exactly as they were in that moment. The laughs, the chaos, the love. These photos have become some of my most treasured possessions and something I will cherish for years to come.

Rachel is the absolute best! I’ve had the privilege of getting to know her as she’s taken our photos for many of our life events now, but one of my favorites is the legacy session we did last year. She did an amazing job showcasing us, being us as a family in our home. As parents, we always want to freeze or slow down time or with our kids. I feel like we can look back on this session and truly relive a normal day in our house at that time. She captured our kids personalities perfectly and I know I’ll look back on these pictures forever!
